Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)

The new automotive quality system standard, QS-9000, requires the use of statistical methods for continuous quality improvement.   One of the approved methods is FMEA.  It is an analytical method used to identify potential modes of failure in a product or process and the subsequent effects the failure might cause. It enables the designing of quality into the product, instead of inspecting or testing it in.  By classifying failures in terms of how critical they are, it establishes priority for corrective actions.  Therefore, it can actually accelerate the design and development process.

This seminar also covers basic issues related to product liability and product reliability calculations, which are an important requisite for an effective FMEA.  The emphasis is upon concepts and techniques, with minimal mathematics. The practical nature of the training includes exercises involving the participant’s products.  The value of using FMEA for process design is usually overlooked, but will be emphasized in this seminar.

Who should attend this seminar?

It is particularly well suited for product designers and engineers.  Manufacturing Engineers, Quality Engineers, and other production persons will find it very useful as well.  Managers of these functions will benefit greatly.  Up to 24 persons may participate. It includes a certificate of completion and requires eight hours of class time. All materials are provided.

On completion of this seminar, you will be able to:
